Background
TheLaTeXLab was started after watching researchers lose days to LaTeX formatting every time a paper was due. It does one thing: formatting and typesetting research in LaTeX.
A client sends a Word file, a PDF, or an existing LaTeX project. A LaTeX specialist rebuilds or formats it by hand in the template the journal, conference, or university requires, and tests that it compiles before delivery. The work is done by LaTeX experts with more than 10 years of experience, not by an automated converter.
TheLaTeXLab started with individual researchers. It now also builds accessible LaTeX thesis templates for universities, including the LaTeX thesis template for Purdue University, and provides class files, JATS XML, and accessible output for journals and publishers.

Pricing notes:
- Prices are in US dollars. Dissertations for German universities are priced in euros, from EUR 529.

How it works
- Send the document. The client shares the file, the target journal, conference, or university, and the deadline. Accepted files: Word (.docx), digital or scanned PDF, and LaTeX or Overleaf projects.
- Get a flat fee quote. The LaTeX specialist who will handle the file replies the same working day, usually within 2 hours on weekdays, across IST, EU, and US-East working hours.
- Work starts with no upfront payment. The document is converted or formatted by hand and tested for compilation.
- Review the first draft and ask for any changes.
- Pay and receive the final files, once satisfied.
Turnaround: research papers usually within 72 hours; theses within 7 days up to 80 pages and within 14 days up to 350 pages. Files are delivered by email.
Included with every order
- The full LaTeX source (.tex files, BibTeX bibliography, and figures), which the client owns and can edit
- A compiled PDF, tested for compilation before delivery
- Revisions until the client is satisfied
- No upfront payment: the client reviews the first draft before paying
- Confidentiality: every LaTeX specialist signs a confidentiality agreement, so unpublished research stays private
- Quality guarantee: if a manuscript is rejected because of a LaTeX formatting issue, TheLaTeXLab fixes it free or refunds the fee in full

Clients and case studies
Published with the clients' permission at https://thelatexlab.com/customers/:
- Monash University PhD thesis: a thesis by publication; 17 Word files, 5 published journal PDFs, and 6 EndNote libraries turned into one 214-page LaTeX thesis that met Monash's requirements. https://thelatexlab.com/customers/monash-phd-thesis/
- Springer economics paper: a 45-page Word paper with 258 equations and 9 tables converted to Springer's sn-jnl LaTeX template and delivered the next day. https://thelatexlab.com/customers/springer-economics-paper/
- Mathematics paper for arXiv: a Word manuscript converted to LaTeX, with 19 diagrams drawn in Word rebuilt from scratch in TikZ; first draft in 3 days. https://thelatexlab.com/customers/arxiv-maths-paper/
- Scribology LaTeX template: a Word research-paper template rebuilt as a reusable LaTeX class, fill-in template, guide, and Overleaf-ready package for students. https://thelatexlab.com/customers/scribology-latex-template/
Limitations
- No English language editing. TheLaTeXLab does not rewrite, proofread for language, or change the wording, data, or results.
- No journal selection, pre-submission peer review, plagiarism checks, or cover letters.
- Not instant. Every document is done by a person, so delivery takes hours or days, not seconds. Free tools such as Pandoc convert Word to LaTeX instantly, but their output usually needs manual cleanup and does not apply a journal's template.

Frequently asked questions
- Is TheLaTeXLab an automated converter?
- No. Every document is converted or formatted by hand by a LaTeX specialist and tested for compilation before delivery.
- Why not convert Word to LaTeX with an AI tool or Pandoc?
- For a short, simple document, an automated tool can be enough. They struggle with what journals check: complex equations, multi-page tables, figures drawn in Word, cross-references, and the journal's own class file and bibliography style. TheLaTeXLab is for when the file must compile in the required template and pass submission checks.
- How much does Word to LaTeX conversion cost?
- From $149 for up to 10 pages, as a flat fee. Longer papers cost $279 to $499, and papers over 50 pages get a custom quote.
- How long does it take?
- Research papers usually take up to 72 hours. Theses take up to 7 days for up to 80 pages and up to 14 days for up to 350 pages.
- Do I pay before the work starts?
- No. The client reviews the first draft and pays once satisfied, before final delivery.
- What files can I send?
- Word (.docx), digital or scanned PDF, and existing LaTeX or Overleaf projects.
- What if the journal asks for changes after peer review?
- Formatting changes after peer review are included, and a paper can be reformatted for a new journal after a rejection.
- Does TheLaTeXLab edit the English in my paper?
- No. It formats and converts; it doesn't change the wording, data, or results.
- Can TheLaTeXLab format my thesis to my university's LaTeX template?
- Yes. It works with 70+ university templates, and follows the university's guidelines when there is no official template.
- Do I get the LaTeX source files?
- Yes. Every delivery includes the full .tex source, BibTeX bibliography, and figures, which the client owns.
- Is my unpublished research kept confidential?
- Yes. Every LaTeX specialist signs a confidentiality agreement.
- Can universities and publishers work with TheLaTeXLab?
- Yes. It builds accessible thesis and journal templates for universities, and class files, typesetting, JATS XML, and accessible output for publishers. These projects start with a scoping discussion a written proposal.
- What is the difference between TheLaTeXLab and Editage or Enago?
- Editage and Enago focus on English editing and publication support. TheLaTeXLab specializes in building the LaTeX document: conversion, templates, typesetting, and clean compilation.
