Citation Generator
APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE, AMA, Vancouver. Free, no signup, runs in your browser.
Paste a DOI, PubMed ID, arXiv ID or ISBN, or upload a .bib, .ris, .enw or .nbib file, and get citations in the style you need: a single reference, a full sorted reference list, or in-text citations. Every citation is built from the source's own record (CrossRef, Europe PMC, arXiv, OpenLibrary), so author names, years and page numbers are not typed by hand.
Which tool do you need?
| You need | Style pages |
|---|---|
| One reference in a style | APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE, AMA, Vancouver |
| The full list for the end of your paper | Any style page set to Reference list, such as APA or MLA works cited |
| Citations for inside your sentences | APA in-text, MLA in-text |
| A citation from a DOI or ISBN | DOI to APA, DOI to MLA, ISBN to APA, ISBN to MLA |
| References for a LaTeX paper | DOI to BibTeX and the other BibTeX converters |
The tool above does all of these: choose the style, then what you want (a single citation, a reference list or in-text citations).
What it can and cannot cite
It can cite anything with a DOI, PubMed ID, arXiv ID or ISBN: journal articles, conference papers, preprints and books. Up to 50 at once, mixed in one list, or a whole library from a reference-manager export.
It cannot cite websites, videos, lectures or interviews: they have no record to look up. Write those by hand, following the examples on each style page.
Frequently asked questions

Paste the DOI (or its doi.org link) into the tool above, pick the style and convert. The citation is built from the publisher's record in CrossRef.
Every citation here comes from a database record, which websites do not have. That is also why the citations are accurate: nothing is typed in by hand.
Yes. APA, MLA, Chicago and Harvard lists are alphabetical; IEEE, AMA and Vancouver are numbered in the order you paste. Copying keeps italics and the hanging indent for Word and Google Docs.
It is free and needs no signup. Files are read in your browser, and lookups go from your browser to the public databases. Results are gone when you close the tab, unless you choose to have them emailed to you.
