The DOI ends the reference as a link, https://doi.org/..., which is the APA 7 form, and the journal and volume are in italics. The title comes exactly as the publisher registered it. Science registers sentence case, which is what APA wants; some publishers register Title Case, and then you lowercase the title yourself, keeping names.
Where to find a paper's DOI
A DOI always starts with 10. and a slash. Look:
- On the article page, under the title or in the "Cite" or "Share" box.
- On the first page of the PDF, in the header or footer.
- In your reference manager, in the DOI field of the item.
A publisher's page address usually does not contain the DOI, so copy the DOI itself rather than the address bar.
Frequently asked questions
Usually a copying error, such as a character lost at the end of a line in a PDF. Or the DOI is registered with DataCite rather than CrossRef, as datasets on Zenodo and figshare are; those are not found here. arXiv's own 10.48550 DOIs are looked up on arXiv. The result shows the reason for each DOI that fails, and the rest still convert.

The converter keeps each title as the publisher registered it in CrossRef. APA wants sentence case, so lowercase it yourself, keeping names and acronyms. A converter cannot reliably tell a name from an ordinary word, so it does not change titles for you.
